VBS 2026: A Vatican Adventure with St. Jerome

What an incredible week at VBS 2026! Our parish came alive as children learned about the Vatican, discovering the beauty of the Church and the joy of Scripture with St. Jerome as their guide.

From “Swiss Guard” games and St. Peter’s‑inspired crafts to storytelling in our “Library of the Saints,” each day helped our young pilgrims experience their faith in a hands‑on, joy‑filled way. St. Jerome’s love for Scripture inspired the children to dive into God’s Word through skits, memory verses, and creative projects.

Of course, the week was also packed with music, laughter, outdoor fun, and the kind of friendships that make VBS unforgettable.

A huge thank‑you to our volunteers, teens, and families who made this year’s program such a gift to our parish.

We’re already excited for next summer’s adventure!

¡Qué semana tan increíble vivimos en la Escuela Bíblica de Verano (VBS) 2026! Nuestra parroquia cobró vida mientras los niños aprendían sobre el Vaticano, descubriendo la belleza de la Iglesia y la alegría de las Escrituras con San Jerónimo como guía.

Desde juegos al estilo de la Guardia Suiza y manualidades inspiradas en San Pedro hasta la narración de historias en nuestra «Biblioteca de los Santos», cada día ayudó a nuestros jóvenes peregrinos a vivir su fe de una manera práctica y llena de alegría. El amor de San Jerónimo por las Escrituras inspiró a los niños a profundizar en la Palabra de Dios a través de representaciones, versículos para memorizar y proyectos creativos.

Por supuesto, la semana también estuvo llena de música, risas, diversión al aire libre y ese tipo de amistades que hacen que la VBS sea inolvidable.

Un enorme agradecimiento a nuestros voluntarios, adolescentes y familias que hicieron del programa de este año un verdadero regalo para nuestra parroquia.

¡Ya estamos entusiasmados por la aventura del próximo verano!

The Most Reverend Michael T. Martin, OFM Conv., Bishop of Charlotte, announces today that the Very Rev. Benjamin Roberts, V.F., who has served as Pastor, is being transferred from Our Lady of Lourdes Church to a new assignment of Priest in solidum with Rev. J. Patrick Cahill at St. Matthew Church to serve the faithful at its Waxhaw campus and lead them in becoming their own parish. This transfer becomes effective on July 1, 2026. We are grateful to Fr. Roberts for his dedicated ministry to our parish.

The bishop also announces today that Rev. David O’Connor, who has served as Parochial Vicar, is being transferred from Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville to a new assignment of Parochial Administrator at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. This transfer becomes effective on July 1, 2026. We look forward to welcoming him to our parish community.

The parish will publish details in the coming days of how we will celebrate this departure and new arrival in our community. Please keep these men in your prayers during this time of transition.

El Reverendísimo Michael T. Martin, OFM Conv., Obispo de Charlotte, anuncia hoy que el Muy Reverendo Benjamin Roberts, V.F., quien ha servido como Párroco, será trasladado de la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes a una nueva asignación como Sacerdote *in solidum* junto con el Reverendo J. Patrick Cahill en la Iglesia de San Mateo, para servir a los fieles de su sede en Waxhaw y guiarlos en el proceso de constituirse como su propia parroquia. Este traslado se hará efectivo el 1 de julio de 2026. Agradecemos al Padre Roberts su dedicada labor pastoral en nuestra parroquia.

Our Lady of Lourdes Church to Sponsor Parishioners Seeking South Piedmont’s Community Health Worker Certification

Recognizing the life-changing potential of South Piedmont Community College’s new Community Health Worker program, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Monroe will pay for up to 10 of its parishioners to take the course. 

“We believe this will be an outstanding investment not only in the individuals who choose to participate, but also in the future of their families, our church, and our community,” said Father Benjamin Roberts, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes. 

Launching this summer, the Community Health Worker certification is comprised of 144 hours of instruction spread over 10 weeks. Once students complete the program, they will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, providing critical care and guidance to patients.  

Everyday responsibilities of community health workers include advocating for community health needs, providing basic health education and outreach, connecting clients to health and social services, building cultural competency and communication skills, and supporting chronic disease prevention and management

Community health workers will find employment opportunities at hospitals, clinics, public health departments, nonprofits and social service agencies.

To enroll in the Community Health Worker program, students must have at least a high school diploma. The program will be offered entirely online and will cost $180.

Our Lady of Lourdes will reimburse the $180 cost of the course. All parishioners have to do is pay for the course and show the church staff their receipt, and they will be paid back in full

Roberts said the reason to make this program available to his parishioners are numerous.

«Creemos que esta será una inversión excepcional, no solo en las personas que decidan participar, sino también en el futuro de sus familias, de nuestra iglesia y de nuestra comunidad», afirmó el Padre Benjamin Roberts, párroco de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes.

Con su lanzamiento previsto para este verano, la certificación de Trabajador de Salud Comunitaria consta de 144 horas de instrucción distribuidas a lo largo de 10 semanas. Una vez que los estudiantes completen el programa, estarán preparados para trabajar en diversos entornos, brindando atención vital y orientación a los pacientes.

The Mary’s Sons Apostolate invites you to join them in praying in a special way for the 10 men who are preparing to be ordained to the Holy Priesthood for the Diocese of Charlotte on May 30: Deacons Robert Warren Bauman, Michael Patrick Camilleri, John Warren Cuppett, Maximilian Karl Frei, Juan González Hernández, Bryan Ilagor, Michael James Lugo, Daniel Chaves Peña, Peter James Townsend, and James Connor Tweed. From April 21 to April 27, five handmade wooden kneelers will be at our parish.  Please take a moment to pray on the kneelers for the deacons. There will be prayer cards for you to take and journals in which you can write messages of encouragement and well wishes. The kneelers and journals will travel to other parishes in the coming weeks and then will be given to the men at their ordination.
